Scripture: Proverbs 3: 13-18

(13) Happy (blessed, fortunate, enviable) is the man who finds skillful and godly Wisdom, and the man who gets understanding [drawing it forth from God’s Word and life’s experiences],

(14) For the gaining of it is better than the gaining of silver, and the profit of it better than fine gold.

(15) Skillful and godly Wisdom is more precious than rubies; and nothing you can wish for is to be compared to her.

(16) Length of days is in her right hand, and in her left hand are riches and honor.

(17) Her ways are highways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.

(18) She is a tree of life to those who lay hold on her; and happy (blessed, fortunate, to be envied) is everyone who holds her fast.

Commentary:

As we go forward in our pursuit pf peace, it is helpful to look at the many facets of our lives and behaviors that can bring about that goal. The scriptures explain that gaining wisdom is a critical aspect. Wise direction in our lives; skillful, godly wisdom is certainly part of that journey.

When we make wise decisions, learn from the events in our lives and continue to grow in God's direction we will increase the peace in our lives. The bible tells us that obtaining wisdom is better than obtaining riches.

Often in our lives we focus on worldly things. Making money, paying bills, getting a new car. There is nothing wrong with putting forth effort to maintain and improve our lives, but it is important that we keep those things in moderation and balance. If we maintain a strong focus on the things of God, we can be assured that we will be blessed in every area of our lives. This promise is told to us in the Old Testament and the New.

When we read the scripture above it is natural to ask how we can obtain wisdom. Fortunately, God has made that part easy for us. Just ask.

Live in the promise of God's peace.
